i suppose what we're asking is what really changed with the advent of autonomous cultural production? the obvious change is that nothing is human-made anymore of course but how is that change felt? why is it different? ...

its strange that this is even a question. i suppose i just assumed we're all experiencing this in the same way or have the same attitude towards it...

well i think i can easily concede that a lot has changed. but i suppose my wider point is that in a lot of ways culture has always behaved in this exact same way. it was always caught in feedback loops, optimizing towards something.. even pre-computation optimization has always been the engine, just slower and messier: what got attention/sold got repeated.. and this is just a natural progression or culmination of that same logic..

well i suppose it is but dont you think theres some truth to it? ... i'm sorry for assuming this but i feel like you're saying there is some kind of essence that was lost, a kind of uniquely human originality that no longer exists and i'm deeply skeptical of that... i think culture has always simply been a kind of complex system with all the different authors basically just acting as nodes in a web... it has clearly mutated throughout history depending on various technological circumstances etc. but whos to say which of these was a better or worse configuration or which was truer?
