the textures here are definitely channeling something like a DOS-era game.

idk but i really wouldnt say this is DOS-era. look at these textures. this looks like realtime 3D. its at least win95 if not 98.

i'd agree it's channeling that era roughly but it doesnt look like realtime 3d to me. definitely looks like either a pre-rendered background or a promo render. has that kind of fidelity.

yeah i think you're right. i think i got distracted by the grain again, which i hope you'll agree seems closer to DOS. but it's generally closer to win98 for sure. edited the hashtag accordingly now.

look at this fake aliasing.. all mushy and inconsistent

this is so gorgeous.. so many colors subtly fading into each other.. it looks almost painterly. i dont think digital artists ever really take textures this far..

agreed. this is the highlight.. the subtle cloud of mist rising from the searing flesh. and the way it seems to melt and dissipate in this pool of lava..

now that i think about it i'd say it looks like a mixture of late 90s or early 00s graphics and contemporary techniques.. something between an upscale and a remaster..

its also so evocative.. it sort of effortlessly and indirectly describes how this mutant army is getting spawned into this hostile world, instantly burning and turning into some sort of fleshy lichen...
